Fall/Winter Skincare Tips

Changes in the weather, humidity levels, and changes in temperature can cause our skin to become dehydrated or dry and we may experience more irritation, redness, or inflammation. Dry weather also means that our skin will produce more sebum to hydrate which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts.

Here are some ideas that may help.

Use an oil or cream cleanser that doesn't strip away moisture.

Add a hydrating mist for another layer of hydration that will prepare your skin to absorb moisture more effectively. The Odacite mists are aloe vera based which is a veil of hydration that is healing and soothing.

Exfoliation is important all year round. If you're experiencing dullness and dryness, it may be tempting to scrub by exfoliating aggressively which can lead to even more dryness and irritation. Try other forms of exfoliation like a light exfoliating toner. Try using your physical exfoliator 1 time a week and the exfoliating toner 2 times a week. Experiment.

Add a facial oil to restore moisture balance. Oils that are rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and moisture content. But continue to use hyaluronic acid and vitamin C serum.

Add a mask to your routine. Masks can help instantly hydrate and soothe stressed skin. Face masks can deliver a potent dose of powerful and active ingredients to the skin by creating a barrier between your skin and the air.

You may want to use a richer moisturizer in the cooler months as well. Your skin requires both humectants and emollients that draw in moisture and lock in moisture. It is said that our skin holds only a small percentage of hydrating that our skincare provides, this is one reason why layering our skin care is important.

SPF is still very important because although the temperature drops, there is still radiation year-round and even a small amount can cause damage that leads to skin cancer, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, and aging of the skin.

By moisturizing your whole body, you're protecting and actively rebuilding your skin barrier, which protects your skin from redness, flakiness, and even eczema. So, find a body cream or oil that you love to keep the skin on your body hydrated. As for your lips, they're one of the most delicate parts of our skin. Keep a lip balm nearby to reapply and treat throughout the day but also make it part of your nighttime routine.

A long soak in the tub or a hot shower after a cold day sounds heavenly, right? But limiting your exposure to hot water can go a long way to keep your skin hydrated because hot water removes natural oils from your skin more than lukewarm water. And use body products that have ingredients that won't dehydrate or irritate... just like you would on your face.

You can minimize the potential for dry skin by using a humidifier to add moisture to the air. So, when the heat goes on, turn on your humidifier, especially when you're sleeping to prevent moisture loss at night.
